Now that the summer temps are gone, enjoy a good meal outside in the pleasant sunshine! Savor fresh seafood with Chesapeake Bay views at one of the waterfront restaurants in Hampton. Self-guided Walking Tour at Fort Monroe 

The largest stone fort in America, explore Fort Monroe‘s 63 acres at your leisure. Start at the Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center for a free copy of their walking tour map. Visit the stops listed to learn about the fort’s history from its completion in 1834 to 2011 when it became an official National Monument.

During your walk you can even treat yourself at the nearby Firehouse Coffee.

Indoor Attractions

The Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center hosts free art exhibits at their indoor gallery year-round. Check their website for not only current exhibition themes, but also events, classes & workshops.

Families love the indoor Virginia Air & Space Science Center’s interactive aviation exhibits. With more than 30 historic aircraft, a hands-on space exploration gallery, and unique space flight artifacts it’s a great place to get lost in space! Tickets include a free IMAX film during your visit.

Time-travel through Hampton’s storied past at Hampton History Museum through four centuries of national history and view how Hampton evolved as “America’s Gateway” from Native American days to the Space Age.

Peninsula Town Center is a large outdoor shopping center with many restaurants & stores to choose from. It’s also where you can also get your body moving indoors at SkyZone Trampoline Park or Latitude Climbing & Fitness.

Planning for mixed weather?

We’ve mentioned Fort Monroe and how it’s a great place to walk, but to take a break from the weather you can head into the Visitors & Education Center or the Casemate Museum.

Let the kids run around outside at Air Power Park. Throughout the park there’s aircraft on display, there’s a playground to the right for younger kids, and the entrance for Waterwalk Path is to the left. There’s also an indoor museum to step out of the rain or hot sun, displaying miniatures and models.
