Explore Haunted Hampton: Can’t-Miss Halloween Events in Hampton, VA [2023]

The streets, waterways and stone walls in Hampton have ghost stories to tell. From the Fort Monroe Ghost Walk to the Hampton Horror Tours, there’s something for every thrill-seeker to enjoy in the city.

Oct. 2: Hear the real story of the “Witch of Pungo” on Monday

Interested in witches? On October 2, the Hampton History Museum will be hosting a bewitching lecture on the Witch of Pungo. Almost everyone in Coastal Virginia has heard of Grace Sherwood, the Witch of Pungo.  People have been sharing stories about her since she was ducked in Lynnhaven Bay during her trial for witchcraft in 1706. This event will reveal the history behind these stories. It’ll also help to explain why so many thought she was a witch.

This event is free to museum members and $5 for non members.

Oct. 20-22: Ghost Walk at Fort Monroe

Also, as spooky season approaches, one of our most notable landmarks, Fort Monroe is hosting the 10th annual Ghost Walk. From October 20-22, Where History Meets Mystery will give residents and visitors alike a fright night they’re sure to enjoy. Fort Monroe will combine history side- by-side with the mysterious tales that have been collected over the years to offer attendees a unique, yet creepy experience.

2023 Ghost Walk at Fort Monroe

Fort Monroe takes you inside the true headlines and factual macabre news stories from past years. Bringing real documented court cases to life by sharing the haunted folklore that comes chillingly close to real life accounts. There will also be bonus parts of the tour unlocked as attendees venture through uncharted territory.

Oct. 25: Horror Story Themed Cruise

The Hampton Queen has partnered with the Hampton History Museum to bring you a Horror Story Themed Cruise. Join us on Wednesday, October 25th from 7:00-8:30 PM. Enjoy this evening cruise learning about the spookier history of Hampton from one of our historical actors.
