Hampton Shines in 2025
As 2025 winds down, Hampton, Virginia, continues to stand out as a city full of heart, history, and hometown pride. With its scenic beaches, deep roots, and thriving local business community, Hampton has gained the nation’s attention, earning mentions across major publications, travel blogs, and news outlets for its culture, affordability, and timeless charm.
Whether you’re walking along the bay, discovering historic gems, or enjoying seafood by the water, Hampton’s spirit has a way of pulling you in. This year has proven what locals already know: the city isn’t slowing down. It’s only getting stronger.
Here’s a look at a few of the moments that made 2025 one to remember.
A Year of Recognition and Resilience
While Hampton did make headlines this year, it also made history. The city was named an All-America City for the fifth time.
Mayor Jimmy Gray said it best. “This is for all of us — our residents, our students, our teams — everyone who believes in making Hampton better every day.”
That momentum continued as Hampton, along with Newport News, received the Gold Excellence in Economic Development Awardfrom the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for their work on the Liebherr Mining Equipment expansion, a $72 million investment that strengthens the region’s economy and drives innovation in battery-powered mining technology.
Making Waves on the Coast
If there’s one place that continues to capture attention, it’s Buckroe Beach. Featured in the “Top 30 Must-Visit Beaches on the East Coast,” Buckroe earned praise for its laid-back feel and family-friendly charm, where visitors can swim, walk the pier, or let kids enjoy a nautical-themed playground, making it a perfect day by the water.

Hampton even had its moment of viral fame when Australian TikToker and competitive eater JWebby stopped by Buckroe Coffee Companyto take on the “Largest Acai Bowl in Virginia,”and finished it in just 16 minutes and 42 seconds.
And just a few miles away, Outlook Beachat Fort Monroe made an appearance in Travel + Leisureas one of Virginia’s best “secret beaches.” The article highlighted its sweeping views of the Chesapeake Bay, peaceful atmosphere, and deep historical roots, offering relaxation and reflection that few beaches can match.
Life on the Water

For those dreaming of life by the water without the hefty price tag, Hampton continues to stand out, recently named one of the “20 Coastal Cities That Offer Affordable Beachfront Living”for its mix of history, scenery, and approachable lifestyle.
Hampton was also recognized by Marinalife and Snag-A-Slip as one of the top 205 most-requested boating destinations in the nation, based on five years of national data.
A City Rooted in History
Hampton was also recognized for its history. This year, Southern Livingcalled the city a “hidden gem for history buffs and beach lovers alike.”

That same spirit of heritage was front and center during Juneteenth, when USA TODAY featured Hampton as one of five U.S. communities keeping Juneteenth traditions alive.
Meanwhile, The Saturday Evening Postrevisited the remarkable story of Aberdeen Gardens, the only New Deal-era resettlement community designed, built, and inhabited entirely by Black families in the 1930s. Nearly a century later, the neighborhood still stands as a powerful symbol of pride, perseverance, and progress.
With everything that Hampton has to offer, 2025 was another year in which the city truly shone. Behind every recognition, what truly makes this city special and shines are the people who call it home.
