The Tragic Tale of Virginia Christian: A True Crime Exploration

March 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Us for a Riveting True Crime Event! Immerse yourself in a “living documentary, theater-in-the-round” dramatic experience from playwright Marie St. Clair.

Step back in time to 1912 and delve into the gripping story of Virginia Christian, the first woman in Virginia to be executed by electrocution. This event will feature actors reenacting the historical events surrounding the crime, followed by a guided discussion led by Dr. Colita Nichols Fairfax.

Discussion Topics will include:
• Was the murder premeditated?
• What role did the victim, Ida Belote, play in the events leading to her death?
• Why was Virginia Christian executed instead of receiving a life sentence?
Dr. Fairfax will share insights into Hampton’s Societal culture in 1912 and we will engage in thought provoking discussions about justice, race, and history. The evening will create a unique blend of historical reenactment and historical analysis.
