Since 2019 the city has recognized individuals, both historical and contemporary, who had an impact on Hampton through a commitment to peace, justice and progress. Their names are added to the Martin Luther King Jr. and Hampton Heroes Memorial Plaza at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
