Dia de los Muertos

November 2 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

This widely observed holiday focuses on remembering family members and friends who have passed away. This originates from the ancient indigenous peoples of Mexico who believed that the souls of the dead return each year to visit with their living relatives – to eat, drink and be merry.

This free event includes a traditional colored straw demonstration by Cesar Carbajal as well as the preparation of an altar where members of the community can share a prayer, light a candle, or bring a memento to place as an offering for loved ones. Craft stations include making paper marigolds, Day of the Dead masks, and creating papel picado. Food trucks and VMFA On the Road Artmobile will be onsite.
