Explore the sights, sounds, and tastes from cultures across the globe at the 17th annual International Children’s Festival April 15

March 23, 2017 |

On April 15, bring the entire family to the 17th annual International Children’s Festival, a veritable palette of color, cultural pride, and camaraderie. The event, taking place 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at downtown Hampton’s Mill Point Park and Queens Way, will allow children of all ages the unique opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of over 30 countries. This year, the event will coincide with Hampton Heritage Day, also taking place in downtown!

A wealth of activities are planned for this year’s program, including a costumed Parade of Nations showcasing a breathtaking array of exquisite fabrics, bold colors, and exciting designs. Entertainment for this year’s festival will take place on four stages and feature the popular Dragon Head Dance, as well as native folk dancers and musicians representing a variety of cultures. In addition, the Mosaic Steel Orchestra will offer a 75-minute performance lead by Dr. Anthony Hailey and the famed Kenya Safari Acrobats will astound audiences with their skilled acrobatics for three performances.

Also new this year is the “Great Wall of Art,” created by artists representing the countries involved in this year’s festival. Attendees will also receive a special appearance by travel book series character Flat Stanley. Other highlights include international-themed games and exotic and rare animals from various geographical regions.
To help children further simulate real travel and enhance their worldwide journey, Passports to Adventure will be available at the “US Embassy.” Anytime a child visits a country, they will have their visas stamped to confirm their interaction with the ambassadors of that country and have the opportunity to win great prizes!

During the 17th annual International Children’s Festival, vendors will offer (for a fee) exotic and tempting treats from Greece, Germany, Korea, Panama, Thailand, Ireland, and more. Menu items include Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips, Baklava, Empanadas, German Roasted Nuts, Souvlaki, Enchiladas, and Moussaka, among many other selections from a variety of represented countries.
