38th Annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament (Jan. 12-14)The Peninsula Wrestling Association hosts the 37th Annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament at the Hampton Coliseum. The team advancement concept started in Hampton, Virginia with the Virginia Duals in 1981 and is now used by Virginia and many other states to determine the best high school team in the state. The National College Wrestling Coaches Association also recognized the value of the Team Advancement concept and now has the National Duel Team Championships to recognize the best college team in the nation. The Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament is the largest college and high school tournament in the world. For more information, visit www.virginiaduals.org. Monster Jam (Jan. 19-21)Monster Jam Triple Threat Series is a points-based format that showcases the best lineup of Monster Jam vehicles that deliver what fans want to see more trucks, more racing, more freestyle, more donuts, more wheelies, more action. This series tests the versatility of the athletes as they go head-to-head in seven different competitions driving three different vehicles --- Monster Jam trucks, Monster Jam Speedsters and Monster Jam ATVs. These athletes battle for points in challenging racing and freestyle events that push themselves and their machines to the limit. The point leader from each series will receive an automatic bid to the prestigious Monster Jam World Finals to compete for the title of World Champion. Featuring the eight most intense athletes of Monster Jam, coastal Virginia fans will witness a fierce battle for the championship with each competitor using customized high-powered vehicles: Monster Jam Speedsters, Monster Jam ATVs and the famous Monster Jam trucks. Friday, Jan 19, 2018 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan 20, 2018 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan 22, 2018 1:00 p.m. Party in the Pits - $10 Adults / $10 Kids (Pit Pass must be accompanied by an event ticket) Pit Party is a pre-show event taking place from 10:30am-12:00pm (doors close at 11:45am) on January 20 & January 21. Ages 2 & up require a ticket. The Monster Jam® Pit Party provides unprecedented access to the Monster Jam trucks and drivers – you can meet the drivers, get their autographs, take photos and see the trucks up close. It’s a unique experience in the world of motorsports.

From intimate clubs to Carnegie Hall, DeSare is introducing jazz standards and the Great American Songbook to a new generation. With robust arrangements backed by guitar and bass, his smooth vocals and agile piano skills are sure to electrify audiences. In addition to DeSare’s acclaim as a singer/pianist, he is also an accomplished, award-winning composer. His sound is romantic, swinging and sensual, but what sets DeSare apart is his ability to write original material that sounds fresh and contemporary, yet pays homage to songwriting greats like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and others. His compositions include a wide-range of romantic, funny, and soulful sounds.

27 | Hampton Arts League Open Members Exhibition 2018 - January 27 - March 11, 2018

This annual exhibition features artwork by many of the over 350 Hampton Arts League Members in all media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, crafts, sculpture, and watercolor. Artworks in a wide range of styles, content, and sensibilities will be included. As an open exhibition, it will include established artists as well as young or emerging artists and students who are beginning their journeys as artists. Cash awards totaling $850, including $500 First Place, $250 Second Place, and $100 Third Place, five Awards of Merit and five Honorable Mentions will be selected by judge, Solomon Isekeije.  Isekeije received his B.A. in Fine Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria and M.F.A. in Visual Studies from ODU/NSU. He is an Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Fine Arts, and the M.A. / M.F.A Visual Studies Program, in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Norfolk State University.
